okra
ORIGIN:
West Africa
DESCRIPTION:
The okra has about the size of a finger. It is a fibrous fruit containing round, white seeds.
The fruit is harvested when still young and eaten as a vegetable. Okra's are a good source of vitamin A and iron.
CONSUMPTION:
Okra can be cooked or sauteed. The immature pods are also pickled. They combine very well with other fruit vegetables (peppers, courgette, aubergine, tomato etc) and are equally nice raw in salads.
